Hello from Jersey and welcome to your first edition of the Jersey Choice Newsletter. ‘Jersey Choice’ is basically the name of our wide ranging, island growing arm. We wanted to bring you more gardening features, tips and a bit of fun, so I hope you like it.

Our Company Ethos

The other day I realised it’s over thirty years since I got involved sending flowers and plants from Jersey. No internet in those days – we posted out catalogues and everyone ordered by post or phone. I can remember one of our earliest customers, who used to send flowers to his 80 year old daughter, telling me how he was wounded in the First World War! Even now our service tends to attract the bit older, perhaps more “traditional” customer – a lot like me really! And a lot like what I like to call our “ethos”. It’s about being up to date without losing our traditional Jersey values and fairness I suppose.

Quality

Almost all of the plants are grown here in Jersey. There are three bedding and vegetable plant glasshouses in the parishes of St Ouen, St Martin and St Lawrence. We grow perennials, shrubs,

gift flowers and Jersey Royal Potatoes (in modern polythene tunnels) at our Grouville nurseries. We despatch from our nurseries too. This means that not only are we helping maintain Jersey’s proud horticultural heritage, but reassuringly we have almost total control over quality. We try to pass that reassurance on with our 28 day guarantee.

Service

Our new offices and call centre are in Jersey too, St Helier in fact. We work really hard in a very seasonal business to process your orders and for example have the phones

answered quickly and efficiently but in a friendly way too. We can also listen to any concerns and queries and try to deal with them as soon as possible. Our call centre is open 7 days a week and we are always happy to hear from you.

Value

Of course an increasing number of you use the internet. But many of you don’t have internet access. So we made the decision that we will never offer discounts or incentives online that we can’t offer to customers who order by phone or post. How you pay is up to you (we’re still happy with cheques and Postal Orders) and makes no difference to the price either.

What’s more we never discount at the end of a season or to try and entice new customers. So if you order early with us you won’t pay more than somebody else who orders later. And of course we offer free delivery always – so no surprise extra charge. All in all fair pricing – and we think pretty unique too!
